Many wood cook stoves available today are designed and modeled after the antique wood cook stoves. Wood cook stoves are larger than electric or gas ranges. Wood cook stoves come typically come with a firebox, a wood loader, and an oven. Most wood cook stoves do not have burners like we are accustomed to seeing because the entire surface of wood cook stoves are warmed by the fire. This allows for more pans to be used at a time, or for larger skillets. Unfortunately, the heat is not always distributed evenly in wood cook stoves, and so the user must become adept at moving the pots and pans around the surface of the wood cook stove to compensate for the random hot and cool spots. Most wood cook stoves will work as cooking units and space heaters. Wood cook stoves were originally designed to pull double-duty, so antique wood cook stoves can be a powerful heater. Newer wood cook stoves that are taken from older designs will have the same effect. Wood cook stoves can also be very large or unwieldy. Before purchasing a wood cook stove, be sure that it will suit your kitchen and your lifestyle. |
